The Canadian-born American writer of Jewish origin, Saul Bellow was awarded the 1976 Nobel Prize in Literature. He is the only writer to have received the National Book Award for Fiction three times, as well as the Pulitzer Prize (1975) and the national Medal of Arts. Widely regarded as the one of the greatest writers of the 20th century, Saul Bellow had significant influence on the world literature. His novel Mr. Sammnel’s Planet (1970) received the National Book Award.
