Otar Chkheidze
28 November 1920 – 2007.
In 1942 he graduated from the West European Philology Department of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi University. In 1950-1951 he was the Secretary of the Georgian Writers’ Union, the member of the editorial boards of the literary magazines Mnatobi, Tsiskari and Literaturuli Sakartvelo until 1990s.
His most popular novel is The Haze (1974) on which Giorgi Shengelai’s film Journeys of a Young Composer was based (1985). The tragic events of the last century are depicted in his trilogy: The Artistic Coup, The Polar Bear and The Bermuda Triangle. He is the author of monographic works: Vasil Barnov (1965), The Novel and History (1970), Byron’s Italian Diaries (1976) and others.
For his outstanding achievement and contribution to Georgian literature he received the literary awards Saba (2005) and Saguramo Prize (2006).
