The Sunken Celebration
- NOTES AND DIARIES
From the very first days of its fight for independence, Georgia openly, directly and naively announced for the whole world to hear its passionate desire for freedom. Never before our country had been so unified and happy in its struggle for the God-given right.
It was the celebration of the idea ready to soar, the first step of the hope ready to leap high. Sadly, the hope was doomed to remain grounded because numerous individuals, insiders and outsiders, gripped with their ambitions pursued their vile aims. In those days, Tbilisi sank into the boiling whirlpool of sin, as if it were the legendary pheasant wounded many centuries ago. Memory, the greatest contraband nowadays, will forever keep the sunken celebration of those days. (From the author’s introduction)
