seven deadly sins
- Pavić in Georgian
Translated by Guram Gogiashvili
Seven Deadly Sins is one of the notable works by Pavić, consisting of several novellas but perceived as an indivisible novel by the author himself.
In a way, it is a world of literary games in which the author plays with words, various destinies, literary characters, writers, painters and musicians. Like in his other books, Pavić is a master of a nonlinear prose, difficult and even confusing. He is the seer as well as the enticer frightened by any of the deadly sins – each sin is a new theme for improvisation for the writer. Hubristic pride, greed, lust, malicious envy, gluttony, wrath and sloth are all used by the author for creating his fairy tales. Each of the seven sins has its seven cures: chastity, temperance, charity, diligence, patience, kindness and humility, which invisibly accompany the whole narrative.
