Blunt, pseudo-patriotic lyric was alien for Tamaz Chkhenkeli even
though it was the mainstream at the time he published his first poems. The trend was so overpowering that even the greatest writers and poets of the period failed to avoid it. With Tamaz Chkhenkeli, the poetry of the patriotic or lyrical themes remained elegant.
The pivotal point of his poetry is time as a phenomenon and time perception as a cognitive process. The diverse manifestation of time in nature, objects, people and, most importantly, in himself has been the focus of his poems.
If any poet has ever analyzed himself, expressed himself through words, Tamaz Chkhenkeli was doubtlessly one of them.
