Zurab Laoshvili was born in 1963 in Gori. He graduated from the department of Geography and Geology of Tbilisi State University and has a doctoral degree in Military Science. At different times he worked in the Research Centre of Geo-Information Systems and Distance Probing, in the Institute of Geography and Geology of the Georgian Academy of Sciences, was a member of the academic editorial group working on the Georgian Encyclopedia. He is the founder and director of the geo-information systems company Skapis.

 

Apart from twenty years of pedagogical experience, he is the author of numerous academic and scientific articles. Together with co-authors, he published the Geo-Morphological Dictionary (1996), The Basics of the Applied Cartography for Geo-Information Specialist (2011 and 2013), as well as written the geography coursebook for Georgian schools.
