Written in an original style so characteristic of the author, the novel is highly involving thanks to its plot, rich imagery and an interesting mixture of literary narratives. The 4th century Georgia, King Mirian and Queen Nana, their court, and their role in adopting Christianity as a state religion are rendered in a way that makes it virtually impossible to put down the book. Ultimately, Nino’s personality, her life and activities in the ancient capital Mtskheta and later in Bodbe, give a vivid picture of how hard it was to battle the pagan beliefs in favour of more humane Christianity.
