Lado Asatiani
14 January 1917 — 23 June 1943.
In 1938 Lado Asatiani graduated from the Georgian Philology Department of Kutaisi Pedagogical Institute. His first poem The February Morning was published in 1936 in the local newspaper Stalineli. In 1939 the young poet suffering from consumption was conscripted for regular military service. However the medical commission freed him from the duty.
He submitted his collection of poems to the publishing house Federatsia in 1940-1941. The book called The Ancestors was printed in 1943 and the author received ten gratis copies. Except those, not a single copy left the printing house because the entire print was destroyed. The books were shredded as the poems were deemed anti-Soviet in their character, thus inappropriate.
The poet died in July 1943 and was buried in the Vake cemetary, but in 1968 his remains were moved to the Didube cemetary where prominent Georgian writers and public figures are buried.
