A Georgian-Azeri poet and political figure, Imir Mamedli is unique in today’s Caucasus. Raised on the cultural traditions of two languages and literatures, he demonstrates loyalty to both, wholeheartedly serving his homelands, two poetic worlds and two cultures.
It is likewise noteworthy that a man of such integrity can significantly influence further tightening the friendly relations between the Georgian and Azeri people. One of his greatest contributions was translating Shota Rustaveli’s The Knight in the Panther’s Skin into the Azeri language at the end of the 20th century.
