Lia Sturua

Born 15 May 1939.

 

She graduated from the Philology Department of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi University. Her Doctoral thesis was The Artistic Function of Colour in G. Tabidze’s Poetry.

 

Her first collection of poems Trees in the City was published in 1962, followed by other twelve books. She is the author of prose as well: Happy Silence, Stone Dropped in Milk, What Ate the Vine? (a novel of perceptions). She has published essays and articles and her poems are translated into the German, French, English and Finnish languages. In 1997 the Norwegian television company made a film about Lia Sturua and Yunna Moritz.

 

In 2013 she was awarded the literary prize Saba.
