Ana Kalandadze
15 December 1924 – 11 March 2008.
In 1946 she graduated from the Caucasian Languages Department of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi University. Since 1952 she worked in Arnold Chikobava Institute of Linguistics. For many years Ana Kalandadze was the member of the Georgian Language Permanent Commission, was on the boards of the Georgian Writers’ Union and the Academic Council of the Institute of Linguistics.
She started writing poetry at the age of 11. Her first poems were published in 1946 in Literatura da Khelovneba and Mnatobi periodicals. The first collection appeared in 1953, which brought her immediate success and popular admiration. Her other books were published in 1957, 1960, 1967, 1976 and later, with many poems translated into the Russian, English, French, Polish and other languages.
